Magaliesberg Biosphere
Listing Application for SA Government (MaB country representative)
through North West Province. We started assessing the current situation
in 2010 and will be facilitating the public participation process,
develop a management plan, and plan to submit the listing application
to UNESCO via South Africa’s Man and Biosphere country representative
during 2013. Our role was that of Lead consultant and conservation
management specialists. The activities performed included; Project
managing a team of professionals in assessing status quo, identifying
key issues, facilitating public participation developing management
plan with zonation and development guidelines each zone and obtaining
endorsement for biosphere from key stakeholders before preparing and
submitting listing application.
Waterberg Biosphere
Reserve Management Plan for Limpopo Province, South Africa. We Developed
a Management Plan for the Waterberg Biosphere Reserve, as part of
the compulsory review process for UNESCO’s Man and Biosphere programme.
Contour were the Principle Planner and Project Leader. The activities
performed included the following components: Situational Analysis,
Management Planning: Reserve Management, Resource Protection, Sustainable
and Equitable Development, Training and Research Promotion and Endorsement
System Development. Implementation & Monitoring systems, Financial
Analysis.

Moepel Farms
Master Plan for Department of Economic Development, Environment and
Tourism, Limpopo Province, South Africa. Our brief was to develop
a Master Plan for the Moepel Farms Project of some 32,000 ha, comprising
conservation land allocated to claimant communities. We acted as Principle
Planner and Project Leader. Our tasks included a Status Quo Analysis,
Assessment, Tourism Options Analysis, Development Planning, Business
Models and Zonation Planning.

Dinokeng Big Five Game Reserve
Environmental Management Plan (EMP) for the Department of Agriculture,
Conservation and Environment, Gauteng Province, South Africa, comprising
the compilation of a fully comprehensive EMP and species plans. Contour
was appointed as Principal Planner and project leaders. The project
included a Development Plan, Overall EMP, Species specific EMPs, Applications
for Protected Area registration and EIA approvals.

Lapalala Wilderness was re-planned for its owners. It comprises a 30,000 ha wilderness within the Limpopo Province, South Africa. Contour did Development and Management Planning as Principle Protected Area Planners. They conducted an Assessment before carrying out Strategic Planning, conducting an Options Analysis, doing Land Use Planning, and finally producing an Ecological Management Plan, a Development Plan, and a Business Plan

Feasibility Study for Community-based Ecotourism Opportunities and
Assessment of Socio-economic costs and benefits - for GRL Ingenierie
(French Funding Agency). Also planned the Cubo Community Conservancy
at Massingir.

Vredefort Dome: Strategic Development and Management Plan for the application as a World Heritage Site. Tourism product research, conservation potential analysis and recommendations on development management, producing a printed document to accompany the application as Word Heritage Site. (Awarded in 2004)
