Homestays Assessment for Bojanala Platinum District, North
West Province, South Africa.
The assessment of homestays in the region for 2010 and beyond was commissioned
by to encourage homeowners to make accommodation available for the
2010 Soccer World Cup and other events. The purpose was also to assist
participants to improve the services and hospitality offered by the
homestay, thereby increasing the value for tourists and encouraging
longer visitor stays, attracting higher spending visitors, as well
as extending the visitor season. The scope of work included the invitation
of homestay participants to take part in an assessment exercise, in
order to determine the quality of their products, the training of
selected participants to enhanced homeowners’ skills and the value
of their product, the linking of qualifying homestays with accommodation
channels for the 2010 Soccer World Cup and the resultant increase
in the bed supply in the District, particularly during major events.
Homestays were also assisted in marketing their opportunities via
the website and information centres.

Bojanala Platinum District Tourism Master Plan, North West
Province, South Africa.
Contour were the project leaders and principle consultants.
The development of a Tourism Master Plan was commissioned by the Bojanala
Platinum District Municipality (BPDM) in order to assist the Municipality
in identifying priority focus areas, aimed at developing the tourism
industry in the District and yielding sustainable tourism developments
and benefits of high quality for the area and its people.

Greater Nkomazi River Valley Concept Plan for Mpumalanga
Province, South Africa.
A concept for development of the Sogimvelo Game Reserve - Badplaas
area as a conservation and tourism development node. Contour
was appointed as lead consultant and facilitator to develop the Concept
Plan. The broad vision is for the Great Nkomati River Valley (GNRV)
to becom a substantial nature-based tourism and conservation destination
and a primary catalyst for the stimulation of socio-economic benefits
to a largely impoverished rural community, through pro-active facilitation
by the Mpumalanga Tourism and Parks Agency in collaboration with the
private sector, communities and the state.

Zambezi River Basin Tourism and Wildlife Conservation Assessment
As
part of a Multi-Sector Investment Opportunity Analysis for the World
Bank, Willie Boonzaaier from Contour Project Managers was appointed
as Tourism and Wildlife Conservation Expert by BRL Ingénierie. The
project was funded by the Sweden government. The assignment was;
to prepare a summary description and carry out a rapid SWOT analysis
on the tourism and wildlife conservation beneficial uses in the Zambezi
river basin; to advise the Economist and Team leader on the elaboration
of development scenarios; to provide the Economist with all needed
data, including economic aspects, concerning tourism and wildlife
conservation; to contribute to the analysis of the scenarios with
the use of indicators concerning tourisms and wildlife conservation;
and to assist the team in analysing the existence and opportunities
of Public Private Partnerships (PPP) in the tourism sector and in
all the project sectors.
Royal Bafokeng Tourism Route and Anchor Projects – tourism opportunity analysis and Tourism Route Business Plan. Participated in a team of specialists as the spatial tourism specialists, in identifying key tourism opportunities, developing concepts and business plans for anchor projects and developing a spatial tourism plan with tourism routes.

Praia da Rocha Tourism Development Plan at Inhambane, as a Priority Coastal Development Zone in Mozambique. Contour was part of a team that assisted the Client in the areas of formulation of a tourism development plan for Praia da Rocha that maximises the economic potential of the area and can be used as a demonstration of sustainable coastal tourism in the Province of Inhambane.

Tourism Management Proposals for Abu Dhabi government.
The project entailed the development of a 10-year Strategic Plan that
assessed the extensive planted forest of Abu Dhabi, in terms of improved
management and their potential for wildlife-based tourism.
The assignment culminated into an initial phase of rapid assessment and preliminary proposals, followed by a detailed 10-year plan and the development of tourism concepts and products.
Lebatlane Game Reserve - Strategic assessment, Strategic Management Plan and Development and Management Plan for 33,000 ha community-based project in North West Province. The assignment included the assessment of the tourism potential and drafting of a concept development plan and detailed feasibility study.

Rustenburg Spatial Tourism Plan for the Rustenburg Local Municipality, North West Province, South Africa. The development of a Tourism Spatial Plan commenced in order to facilitate tourism development and growth in a pro-active manner. The project provided guidelines for the Local Authority with regard to tourism development and related products as well as priorities for the various initiatives.
Cubo Community Nature Conservancy - Strategic Development and Management Plan and Business Plan for 54,000 ha conservancy in Mozambique for African Wildlife Foundation. The project covered the assessment of the area’s potential as a green fields nature-based tourism project that could benefit the land owning community. A development plan, feasibility study and business plan was completed.

Limpopo National Park Proposed Tourism Development Projects in the community buffer zone of Mozambique for BRL Ingénierie and Mozambican Government. The project entailed the assessment of regional and local tourism potentials and proposing viable tourism projects that could promote the tourism industry, contribute towards the establishment of the Limpopo National Park in Mozambique and benefit local communities.

Blyde Canyon Nature Reserve Strategic Development Plan. A study was done of the Blyde River Canyon, its conservation value, the current management and the policies relevant to development and commercial operations within the Blyde Canyon Nature Reserve (BCNR). To determine the potential for viable tourism opportunities, the regional tourism perspective, the status and trends of day visitor- and overnight facilities and tourism support services were analysed. The potential for new tourism developments and operations within BCNR was then analysed before surveying their potential through a tour operator- and demand survey. After having determined the demand potential, it was compared with the proposed projects to project levels of usage and potential feasibility of each proposal.
